Donner Family Archaeology Project

Stranded and snowbound in this area for over four months during the winter of 1846-47, survivors of the well-known "Donner Party" endured starvation and were surrounded by the deaths of their companions and loved ones. Kelly Dixon graduated from the Michigan Tech Industrial Archaeology program in 1995 and went on to pursue a PhD at the University of Nevada-Reno. Now in her first teaching position at the University of Montana, she explored Alder Creek Camp with a crew of archaeologists. Joining her was Chris Merritt, a first-year student in Tech's IA program and Montana native.
