Social Science Minor: International Studies

A minor in International Studies brings a global and comparative perspective to the study of culture, politics, history and the environment. The focus is upon histories and cultures of Europe and developing nations. Through study of comparative social systems and of the international dimensions of specific current issues, students will have a foundation for an examination of society and politics in the United States.

Requirements - Six of the Following Courses:

  • SS3270 Arch of the African Diaspora
  • SS3300 Environmental Problems
  • SS3400 Contemporary Europe
  • SS3410 World Resources and Development
  • SS3570 History of Canada
  • SS3580 Technology and Western Civilization
  • SS3610 International Law
  • SS3620 International Technology Policy
  • SS3810 Culture, Science, and Technology
  • SS3890 Industry and the World Economy
  • SS3910 Histories and Cultures [on demand; with approval of SS dept.]
  • SS3960 International Experience
  • SS4000 Independent Study [Readings or research on a topic concerning comparative history, culture, or politics]

Students may choose only one of the following courses:

  • SS3550 Europe to 1650
  • SS3551 Europe in the Modern Era
  • SS3552 Renaissance & Reformation
  • SS3560 History of England I
  • SS3561 History of England II
  • SS4210 Global Change Since 1400

Students may choose only one of the following courses:

  • FW4520 Tropical Forests
  • HU3502 World Mythologies
  • HU3504 Novels from World Literature
