Spring 2006 Officers
President: Gerald Greer Hometown: Houghton, MI Gerry is a fourth year social science major with an anthropology / environmental policy concentration . He plans on furthering his education next fall and hopes to study the way different cultures value the environment, and how western environmental policies such as global climate change may impact undeveloped and developing peoples. Here on campus Gerry is involved with the 4S, Environmental Sustainability Committee , Students for Environmental Sustainability, as well having completed a National Science Foundation Summer Research project in 2005 and has attended the Leadershape Institute. |
Vice President : Craig Wilson Hometown: Saginaw, MI Craig is a second year history/anthropology with a focus on archaeology. In the future, he hopes to study industrial landscapes and would like to pursue master's level education in Industrial Archaeology . Craig has volunteered on several occasions with the 4S archaeological efforts at the Huron Mine stamp mill and has both volunteered and worked as a technician in the Archaeology Lab. He has also been employed as an historic interpreter at Fort Mackinac on Mackinac Island. Besides the 4S, Craig is also involved with the Fencing Club and MTU theatrical productions. |
Secretary: Nikki Drenning Hometown: Eastpointe, MI Nikki is double majoring in Environmental Engineering and Social Sciences. She enjoys photography, reading, and watching movies, also she plays defense for her dorm halls Broomball team. Nikki works two part time jobs, as well as a management assistant for Douglass Houghton Hall. After Nikki completes college she hopes to combine her interests in Environmental Engineering, archaeology, and history when she finds a career. |
Treasurer: Mike Deegan Hometown: Cold Spring, NY Mike received his BA in History and Anthropology with a specialization in archaeology from the University of Rhode Island. He conducted academic fieldwork in Bermuda, Belize, Norway, and professional fieldwork in Cultural Resource Management in Staten Island, New York. His research interests lie within the use of material culture to answer greater socioeconomic and class comparative issues within historical archaeology. During the summer of 2005 Mike conducted field research for his thesis at a 19th century domestic structure located on the West Point Foundry site. |
Director of Publicity: Amy Bastion Hometown: Calumet, MI Amy is also a second year student who will be majoring in Anthropology with a focus on Archaeology. Amy would like to focus her studies on Latin America, with hopes of going to Puerto Rico to further her training. She has volunteered for the Huron Town stamp mill excavation and preservation efforts. Besides 4S, Amy also has a part- time job on campus in the Educational Opportunity Department, working for Outreach and MultiEthnic programs. Outreach and MuliEthnic programs focus efforts toward broadening Michigan Tech's diversity on campus and within the community sponsoring activities such as the Parade of Nations and the Annual Spirit of the Harvest Powwow. |
